Liq.-liq. extraction process by contacting a mineral electrolyte and an organic electrolyte contained in two non- miscible aq. phases for extraction of a metallic element which passes selectively from one phase to the other. The mineral electrolyte is pref. a strong acid or its salt in concentrated aq. soln. The organic electrolyte is pref. a mono- or di-organo -phosphate acid or salt esp. bis-(1,3-dipropoxy-2-propyl)- phosphate. The process is partic. useful for extraction of uranium from phosphoric acid solns., leaving a phosphoric acid soln. contg. few impurities which is suitable for fertiliser prodn.
