The parent patent claimed the prodn. of MEK by oxidn. of olefins in the presence of an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of a catalyst of formula MAA'LM. M is Pt or Pd; A is fluoroborate, acetate or trifluoroacetate/ A' is A or Pi-allyl or OOR1. R1 is hydrocarbyl. is is 0 or 2. L is amine, phosphine, arsine, stilbine or amide. The current addn. claims the use of catalysts in which A and A' are perchlorate or the anion of a 2-20C sulphonic acid (esp. methane sulphonate, trifluoromethane sulphonate and p-toluene sulphonate (sic)).
