Homogeneous thermoplastic polymer powder prodn. - by atomising hollow cylinder-shaped melt with gas jet directed against internal surface

Thermoplastic polymer powder is produced by (i) giving a polymer melt the shape of a hollow cylinder and (ii) atomising the melt with a gas jet directed on to the inner surface of the melt-forming cylinder. Atomisation can be improved by introducing a foaming agent into polymer melt. The powder has a narrow particle distribution. Productivity is increased. The powders can be used for applying protective and decorative coatings and for moulding articles by centrifugal casting.
