The invention relates to the technical field of systems for coating surfaces (for example with paints). Specifically these are systems in which the coating material is sprayed and the cabin exhaust-air is scrubbed with water. In the known paint-spray cabins, the heat-recovery from the exhaust-air stream (for preheating the colder fresh air) can be carried out by the installation of heat-exchanger systems downstream of the device for exhaust-air scrubbing. In this case the soiling of the heat-exchanger surfaces by the paint droplets not separated out is unavoidable. The device for the heat-recovery is arranged directly downstream of the device for mixing the exhaust air with the water (scrubber system) in such a manner that the heat-exchanger surfaces are also acted on by the water then contained in the exhaust air. The separating-out device for separating the water droplets from the exhaust air is arranged downstream of the heat-recovery device. The accompanying drawing (Fig. 1) shows the exhaust-air stream: the individual items are: 1) heat-recovery system 2) additional scrubbing device for heat-exchanger surfaces 3) painting zone 4) scrubber system 5) water basin 6) zone in which the paint droplets and water droplets are present in the exhaust air 8) exhaust-air pipeline 9) exhaust-air fan 10) overflow tank for producing the rear wall down which water constantly flows. The fresh-air stream also flows through the heat-exchanger and is completely separate from the exhaust-air stream. <IMAGE>
