The phase transformer produces a linear phase change in an output signal with respect to displacement, the magnitude of the output signal remaining constant during the displacement. It comprises two primaries (6, 7) wound according to sine and cosine functions and excited out of phase. The displaceable core (14) combines the primary signals and induces the output signal in a secondary (8) according to the core position relative to the primaries. Each primary includes multiple axially displaced coaxial segments, the segments of one primary overlapping respective segments of the other primary.
