2-Amino-1-phenyl-1-ethanol cpds. - use as medicaments, i.e. as CNS and/or cardiovascular agents

2-Substd. amino-1-(opt. 4-substd.)phenyl-1-ethanol cpds. of formula (I) and their acid addn. salts are new medicaments. In the formula R is H, Me or OMe; R1 is H, 1-4C alkyl (esp. Me) or 2-(4-R-phenyl)-2-hydroxyethyl; and R2 is 5-8C branched alkyl, piperonyl or 2-(1-hydroxy-1-phenyl-propyl), and may also be iPr to tBu when at least one of R and R1 is not H. Pref. cpds. are N-methyl-N-isopropyl-2-amino- 1-phenyl-1-ethanol (ia) and its salts, esp. the fumorate, and N-(4-methyl-pent-2- yl)-2- amino-1-phenyl-1-ethanol (Ib), N-t-butyl-2-amino-1-(p- tolyl)-1-ethanol (Ic) and their salts. (Ib) has hypotensive activity; (Ia) is an antidepressant; and (Ic) is a vasodilator.
