A bottom plate which is provided with a base surface has a pair of contact surfaces which are arranged parallel to a longitudinal direction that is inclined with respect to the base surface, and are inclined with respect to one another. A clamping wedge rests with a further pair of contact surfaces, arranged on its underside, on the contact surfaces of the bottom plate and can be displaced on the latter in the longitudinal direction. The upper side of the clamping wedge is provided with a third pair of contact surfaces which run parallel to a direction which is inclined through the wedge angle with respect to the longitudinal direction, and are likewise inclined with respect to one another. A supporting plate which is constructed for supporting an object touches with a fourth pair of contact surfaces, arranged on its underside, on the contact surfaces on the upper side of the clamping wedge. If the clamping wedge is displaced in the longitudinal direction, the supporting plate which is pressed by means of the weight of the object against the upper side of the clamping wedge and against the end surface of a stop piece which is firmly connected to the bottom plate is displaced in a vertical direction at right angles to the base surface. As a result of the inclination of the contact surfaces of each pair of contact surfaces with respect to one another, the clamping wedge is guided during its displacement on the one hand on the bottom plate and on the other hand on the supporting plate.
