The laminated material forming the body of a cylindrical container has an innermost layer of synthetic thermoplastic resin. The end of the blank which is to be glued inside, is reduced in an edge zone to about half its thickness. A long groove is cut along the centreline of the edge zone, and after the application of an adhesive, the end is folded over at the groove, so that the two ends of the blank can be glued together with the folded over edge inside. Circular end covers with double flanges are then fixed on the ends of the cylinder. From the outside to the inside, the laminate may comprise a layer of synthetic thermoplastic resin, a layer of paper, a layer of adhesive, a layer of metal, a layer of heat resistant adhesive and a layer of synthetic thermoplastic resin. The process is eminently applicable to the production of containers for alcohol-free drinks. The fitting of a covering strip for the joint inside is made unnecessary and its loosening during subsequent processing of the container so that leaks occur, is avoided. |
