In the recovery of dry chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, used for hydrocarbon extn., the processing water stream obtd. during solvent recovery is freed from the last solvent residues by evaporation. Novelty consists in (i) neutralising the solvent residue-contg. process water with alkali hydroxides and/or alkali carbonates and/or alkali hydrogen carbonates or subjecting it to a neutralising treatment using standard ion exchangers before.
