Cyclonic separator for water streams - to removed suspended material using centrifugal action to separate less dense solids from liq stream and run them off via separate duct

Suspended solids are sepd. from a water stream by passing the water into a spiral channel which leads inwards from the outside. The centrifugal action causes the less dense suspended material to migrate to the inner surface of the spiral duct. Near the end of the duct a baffle is mounted to segregate the two streams and divert them into two separate outlets. The inner stream contains the solids while the outer stream contains the clarified water. Used esp. on plants and generating stations using large volumes of cooling water. Suspended debris is removed from such streams, fine material being removed efficiently as well as coarse material.
