Cooled door frame on steelworks furnaces - esp. open hearth furnaces, where frame contains pipes through which cooling water is circulated

The frame consists of two pillars (5) joined by a top traverse (6); and all three elements (5,6) contain a row of pipes through which a coolant, e.g. water,flows. The pipes have a circular cross-section, and are joined to each other by longitudinal webs to make pipe walls. The pipe walls pref. have a U-shape; and the water pref. enters the vertical pipes in pillars (5) via a bottom inlet manifold, and flows upwards to horizontal pipes in traverse (6). Increased working life of the door frame when the furnace has a roof temp. of e.g. 1650 deg.C is achieved.
