<p>PURPOSE:An antihistamine comprising a carbostyril derivative or its acid addition salt, a novel compound, as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An antihistamine comprising a compound shwon by the formula (R<1> is H, lower alkyl, etc.; R<2> is phenyl, phenylalkyl, etc.; R<3> is H, lower alkyl, etc; carbon-carbon bond between 3-4 positions of carbostyril skeleton is single or double bond) or its acid addition salt, a novel compound, as an active ingredient. A well-known compound shown by the formula I has beta-adrenergic neuronal blocking action and is known as a remedy for arrhythmia and angina heterochronicus. The novel compound shown by the formula prevents the linking between a free activated histamine and a histamine acceptor and exhibits an antihistamine action. A dose of 40mug-2mg/kg/day is applied to patients of various kinds of allergies, e.g., hay fever, pollinosis, etc.</p> |
