A method of preparing the zeolite ZSM-48 (defined by lattice structure and X-ray data). The method prescribes a reaction mixture defined by particular values for Al2O3/SiO2, Na2O SiO2, RN SiO2, OH-/SiO2 and H2O/SiO2, RN being a C2-C12 alkylamine compound or a quaternary ammonium compound or mixture thereof. A compositional formula for zeolites prepared according to the invention is provided and their use as catalysts and sorbents is demonstrated.
