PURPOSE:The titled drug having no side effects, prepared by extracting the body of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Aoyama B strain etc. with hot water and, if necessary, further by modifying the extract chemically. CONSTITUTION:A drug for tumor immunotherapy comprising as an active constituent a natural lipopolysaccharide with a fatty acid content of 1-28% which is composed of a polysaccharide chain of arabinomannan esterified by fatty acids, e.g. palmitic and myristic acids, obtained by extracting the body of Mycobacterium tuberculosis var. hominis: mycobacterium tuberculosis Aoyama B strain or Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv strain with hot water or an alkaline solution and then purifying the extract, or a modified lipopolysaccharide obtained by esterifying the natural lipopolysaccharide further with some other fatty acid. The natural and modified lipopolysaccharides having a saccharide composition of 30-74% arabinose, 20-50% mannose, 0-10% glucose and 0-13% galactose exhibit an antitumor activity without side effects. |
