Fermentation installation for production of methane from various plants, comprising a fermentation tank (1), (30) having a practically constant cross-section throughout its length, comprising a door (5), (31) which completely frees an opening corresponding substantially to the cross-section of the tank for introducing the fermentescible vegetable matter within this latter, means for introducing water within the tank, means for removing from this latter the residue obtained at the end of fermentation and means for ventilating the interior of the tank, characterized in that said tank (1), (30) is substantially parallelepipedal and is made up of prefabricated elements (2, 3) and provided internally with a pocket (4) fabricated from a sheet of flexible material which is impervious to air and to the gases formed at the time of fermentation.
