Traction unit for moving tubes, esp. removing centrifugally cast iron pipes from their moulds. The traction unit or pipe extractor includes a mobile trolley carrying a work cylinder, employed to move a pair of levers outwards; and each lever has a groove in which a clamping jaw is a loose fit. Each jaw is held in the groove by a pair of removable pegs, and possesses a row of curved teeth pressed against the bore of the pipe being extracted. Either the base of the grooves or the rear surface of the jaws is curved, so the jaws are self-aligning; and the rear surface of each jaw is pref. fitted with two lugs forming a recess wider than the thickness of the lever. Efficient gripping of the bore of a pipe or tube by the jaw is achieved. |
