Electric rotary switch with mobile contact - having lateral play to ensure correct seating on paris of chamfered fixed contacts

The rotary switch for use in a vehicle, comprises an insulating stator (1) with a central bore (2) in which an insulating rotor (3) is located. The stator has a number of pairs of fixed contacts angularly spaced about the bore with the contacts (4,4') of each pair being vertically spaced apart in a direction parallel to the rotor axis. The rotor has a mobile contact (6) spring biassed from a radial bore (9) in the rotor to bridge an engaged pair of fixed contacts. The facing ends of the latter have chamfers (8,8') which facilitate contact with corresponding rounded surfaces (11,11') of the contact end of the mobile contact. The mobile contact (6) has a set amount of play (10,10') in the radial bore in the direction of the vertical spacing of the fixed contacts to ensure proper seating on the fixed contacts even after wear. Little or no play is provided in the direction of rotation of the rotor.
