Racemic and enantiomeric fluorenes and fluoranthenes of formula (I) (where R1 is 1-4C alkoxy; R2 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or benzyl opt. substd. by halo, alkyl or alkoxy; R3 is H or alkyl; R4 is H, alkyl, acyl or aroyl, in which the alkyls have 1-4C; n is 1 or 2. Alternatively R1 is H, halo, alkyl or alkoxy; R2 is H, acyl, alkoxycarbonyl or alkylaminocarbonyl; R3 is H or alkyl; R4 is H, alkyl, acyl or aroyl, in which the alkyls have 1-4C; n is 1 or 2. Specific (I) is 3-acetyl-10-methoxy 6-methyl-1,2,3,3a,4,5,6,7, octahydro-3,6-7a triazacyclohepta (j,k) fluorene. The cpds. are useful in treating cerebral vascular damage and cerebral sclerosis in the elderly, for treating cranial trauma and depression. The daily dose ranges from 10-1000 mg.
