PURPOSE:To prevent complication of a gate circuit in a photo TRIAC and enable a light drive thereof by forming a six-layer architecture of P1N1P2N2P3N3 therein and so forming that one main surface is contacted with the P1 layer and the N1 layer and the other main surface is contacted with the P3 layer and the N3 layer. CONSTITUTION:This TRIAC is made of six layer architecture of P1N1P2N2P3N3, the P1N1P2N2 layer is exposed at the side surface, and light is irradiated to the junctions J1, J2 and J3 therebetween. Both main electrodes are made contact with the P1 layer, N1 layer and the P3 layer, N3 layer. In order to use it as an AC switch, positive and negative voltages are alternatively applied to the TRIAC. When light is irradiated to the P1N1P2N2 layer, the thyristor becomes ON state. |
