The remote level indicator for fluid containers has a pneumatic level measurement device consisting of a standpipe immersed into the fluid container at least to the minimum fluid level and a tube connecting it to a manometer indicator. The arrangement is compensated for temp. over a wide temp. range so that an error-free indication is obtained for heated fluids, e.g. engine oil or cooling system fluid in vehicles. A further pipe located between the container and the manometer enables temp. and press. compensation. The end of the compensation tube inside the container is connected to a membrane cell above the maximum fluid level and filled with air of vol. approximately equal to that of the standpipe above an average fluid level. The manometer is filled with coloured glycol or similar liquid.
