<p>A lip seal comprising a wafer (100) formed of concentric sections of polytetrafluoroethylene (126) and an elastomer (146) with the elastomer section (146) attached to a rigid annular member (110) of plastic or metal for mounting the seal. The polytetrafluoroethylene section (126) forms an annular lip sealing portion on either the inner or outer circumference of the seal which said lip sealing portion may be slitted, grooved or formed to improve its flexibility and sealing action. The seal is formed from a polytetrafluoroethylene tube (20) or rod (22) which is etched before having the elastomer bonded thereto in a mold. The resulting composite tube or rod is then slitted into wafers or washers which may further be provided with slits or grooves in the polytetra-fluoroethylene portion. </p> |
