PURPOSE:To remove the contact flaw of a fiber strand and the residual tensile force after the stop of discharging by giving the optical fiber core the specific quantity of penetration during the discharging of a discharging electrode, and driving an actuator on or right after the stop of the discharging and performing axial force control. CONSTITUTION:The fiber element wire 1a after the coating is removed and the strand is cut to specific length is set on clamp parts 10 and 11 and aligned by a fine adjusting mechanism part 30 for alignment. The wire is preheated by the discharging electrode 3 to remove dust, etc., sticking on the fiber end surface and then a moving table 22 is moved as shown by an arrow (a) by a motor 24, so that the end surface of the fiber strand 1a comes closer to the end surface of the opposite fiber strand 1a and contacts it. When the contact pressure of the fiber strand 1a reaches the specific quantity of penetration, the detection signal of an axial force sensor part 33 is fed back to stop the motor 24. Thus, the end surfaces are brought into contact with each other with specific pressure and discharging is carried out for a specific time to weld both together. Further, the signal of a strain gauge 33 is fed back simultaneously with or right after the stop of the discharging and the axial force control is so performed that the axial pressure is zero. |
