PURPOSE:To enable the titled device to be used for labels bound for many countries of different dating patterns by a method wherein a code converting unit is provided which instructs selective printing of two- or three-character alphabetical representation of month, and a printing base is provided with at least 10 characters and a three-character alphabet printing unit. CONSTITUTION:A printing base 55 provided on a line printer is composed of 18 figures, wherein the characters are -, 1, 2, ..., 9, ten in total. Alphabets are cut on the positions corresponding to 10th, 11th and 12th figures, to constitute an alphabet printing unit 55a. For printing, the month is memorized in a printing unit 58 in accordance with the relationship shown in the table. For representation of July, the characters on the printing base 55 are selected as ''145'' and the month is printed as ''JUL'' when the label is bound for the United States, while the characters are selected as ''18F'' and the month is printed as ''JL'' when the label is bound for Canada. The alphabet printing unit consists of at least 10 characters in 3 figures (positions), and selective printing is conducted at each figure (position) by means of a code converting unit. Accordingly, printing for 12-month dating can be conducted in different patterns without need for 12 characters. |
