A process for removing acrylonitrile from a stream of predominantly acetonitrile along with lesser amounts of water by contacting the stream with an amine selected from methylamine, ethylamine and amines having the formula XCH2CH2NHY where X represents H,OH,NH2, CH2.CH2NH2 or -CH2CH2OH and Y represents H,O2H5, CH2CH2OH, CH2CH2NH2 or -NHCH2CH2NHCH2NH2 or where X and Y are joined by OCH2CH2 or NHCH2CH2 or mixtures of said amines, at least one amine group being provided per mole of acrylonitrile. |
