Device and methods for drawing fluid from and introducing fluid into a human or animal subject, which will minimize contamination and or infection. The drainage system is completely closed and in which the device need never be opened to the atmosphere. The device consists of a central manifold (10) which is connected to a drainage catheter for drainage from the subject. Connected to the manifold via conduits (30) and valves (40) is a plurality of plastic collapsible collection containers (20) which may be removed for disposal of the contents for testing. By proper use of the valve mechanism each individual container may be isolated from the atmosphere and sterility maintained during the filling of the containers. Another feature of this invention is that it includes a central manifold means (130) for introducing fluid into a living subject. The manifold includes a plurality of valved input ports (140) to which may be connected individual supply containers which can be isolated from one another by use of a fresh input port (140) for example the administration of nutrients, medicants and in hyperalimentation treatment. The device may be body worn by the use of a belt (18') or a light weight fabric vest (280) which is attached to a belt (210). |
