The invention relates to pistons of aluminium alloy, in particular a method for reinforcing a groove for receiving a piston ring in a piston made from an aluminium alloy. The method is based on that a wear resistant, annular weld 7 is performed by melting through the piston body 1 while simultaneously introducing an alloying addition into the fused aluminium alloy 5 of the piston body 1. In the weld 7 thus formed, a ring groove 3 is machined for receiving the piston ring. The invention may be utilized in the manufacture of pistons for internal combustion engines, compressors and piston pumps. |
