<p>Liq./liq. exchange column is for mass transfer operations between a light liq. and a heavy liq. Column has at the head end, an inlet for heavy liq. just below an outlet for light liq. At the foot of the column there is an outlet for heavy liq. just below an inlet for light liq. Between the two inlets at the head and foot respectively lies the active exchange zone occupies by the two liqs. in contact. Connected into the foot of the column is hydrostatic balance leg forming a continuous 'U' passage with the column. Leg is filled with an incompressible liq. and is provided with a pulse generator at a level corresp. with the head of the column. Incompressible liq. can be the heavy liq. which then fills both the leg and the foot of the column up to the exchange zone. Compressible liq. can be sepd. from the heavy liq. by a diaphragm in the foot of the column, below the level of the heavy liq. outlet. Pulse generator pref. comprises hydraulic ram which is axially reciprocated, e.g. by a powered crank mechanism.</p> |
