PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate for 3,3'- dichlrorbenzidine synthesizing yellow organic pigment in high purity and in high yield, by reducing an azocy- or azobenzene derivative or a mixture thereof under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:2,2'-Dichloroaxocybenzene, 2,2'-dixhloroazobenzene or a mixture of 2,2'-dichloroazoxybenaene and 2,2'-dichloroazobenzene is reduced with hydrazine hydrate to give the aimed substance. The reaction is carried to in water solvent in an alkali condition in the presence of a reduction promoter (e.g. 1,4-naphthoquinone), a surface active agent (e.g. sodium aliphatic alkylsulfonate) and Raney nickel catalyst or an alloy catalyst before development thereof at 30-60 deg.C. An alkali metal compound, alkali earth metal compound, ammonia or an organic basic compound is used as the alkalizing agent. |
