The wood surface is treated by metal combs or with pricking type rollers using band saw blades. Various other methods can also be used. The system reduces the wastage of wood in sawing into strips and improves both thermal and sound insulation. The surface of the wood has an array of fine parallel grooves cut in it. The grooves are spaced about 3 to 4 mm apart and are approx. 0.6mm deep.
