Axially subdivided HV transformer winding - with cast insulation and coil interconnections made outside cast insulation cylinder

The insulation system is applicable to high voltage windings for transformers and reactors which are arranged as concentric cylinders. Each concentric cylinder winding (1,2) is subdivided axially into separate coil sections wound with wire or flat section conductors. The assembled winding cylinders are then cast in resin to provide the necessary insulation (5). To start and finish (A1,E1; A'1,E'1; etc.) of each coil section is brought radially outwards so that, after the resin casting is completed the terminals are outside the cast cylinder. The terminals are spaced circumferentially round the cylinder. The interconnection interconnections between coils are then made outside the cylinder. In the space between windings (1,2) axial cooling ducts (3) are typically provided. The coil start and finish leads are brought out in the bridging sections (6,7) between cooling ducts (DS).
