PURPOSE:To permit the correct monitoring of the abnormal leakage of hydrogen gas, by a method wherein a hydrogen gas supplying system and the main body of the title rotary machine are provided with sensors to detect the leakage of hydrogen gas through double checking. CONSTITUTION:The signal of a flow meter 16 is inputted into a hydrogen gas supplying amount adder 21 to measure hydrogen gas consumption by the adder 21. A value from the adder 21 is compared with a set value in a comparator 23 whereby the existence of abnormal leakage is detected. The gas consumption is operated in an operation processing unit 12 based on the measured values of a temperature sensor 10, a pressure sensor 5, the temperature sensor 19 of a constant pressure tank 18 and a pressure difference sensor 20 whereby the existence of hydrogen gas is detected. An abnormality deciding unit 24 outputs an abnormal alarm to an indicator when the signal of abnormal leakage is sent from at least either one of the operation processing unit 12 or the comparator 23 while the same deciding unit 24 outputs a stopping signal to a hydrogen gas cooled rotary electric machine when the signals of abnormal leakage are sent from both of the operation processing unit 12 and the comparator 23.
