Prodn. of prim. aluminium alkyl cpds. (I) having methyl-gp. branching comprises first treating a vinylidene-type monoolefin (II) with an acidic isomerisation catalyst. The resulting isomer mixt. is then reacted with an aluminium hydride (A) and/or aluminium trialkyl (B), forming a hydride under reaction conditions at 115-125 deg.C in presence of a catalyst. The catalyst comprises a transition metal cpd. (D), which must be the last component added, and opt. an aluminium alkoxide (E). The mole ratio of (A) and/or (B) to (D) is 50-20:1 and opt. of (D):(E) is 0.9-1.1:1. (I) are intermediates (a) for primary alcohols (by oxidn. then hydrolysis); (b) for alpha-olefins and (c) for carboxylic or sulphinic acids (by reaction with carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide).
|
