The waste treatment plant for the biological purification of waste water with organic impurities has a fixed bed reactor (8) which consists of particulate material and acts as surface for the adhesion of anaerobic microorganisms and through which waste water flows. In order to be able to remove the sludge which forms during the purification relatively easily from the tank (2), the material in the fixed bed reactor (8) is chosen to be lighter than water so that the fixed bed reactor (8) floats. The chamber (1) acts as pretreatment tank, and the pretreated waste water enters the tank (2) via the immersion pipe (7).
