The monitoring system measures the supply rate of the individual parts and compares the measured value with that corresp. to different operating rates. A light barrier is arranged across the supply path for the parts, e.g. screws or bolts, its output pulses being supplied to a digital counter. A mechanical counter is rotated at the same rate as the continuously adjustable operating rate of the machine, with a further digital counter (12) coupled to an evaluation circuit indicating the corresp. max. supply rate for the parts. Pref. the first counter comprises a net counter and the second counter comprises a gross counter.
