The apparatus is composed of a cylindrical vessel, which is arranged suspended on a support structure and comprising a non-rigid water-permeable tube which is furnished with a take-off orifice (50) situated at its bottom end. The bottom tube end (3a) is directed upwards on the tube exterior at a distance from the tube exterior and thus forms a pocket (3). The bottom tube end (3a) is furnished at its rim with a double ring (13, 14) which can be rotated with respect to an outer ring (8) mounted at the same height on the tube exterior. Depending on the mutual position of the outer ring (8) and the double ring (13, 14), a vessel bottom or a take-off orifice (50) is formed, the maximum opening cross-section of which corresponds to the vessel cross-section. The outer ring (8) can be connected to an inner ring (9), arranged at the bottom end of the filling space in the tube interior, by means of screws (10) in such a manner that the tube (1) is firmly clamped between the two rings (8, 9). The depth of the pocket (3) is expediently a little larger than half the diameter of the vessel. The dewatered sludge can exit unimpeded from the take-off orifice (50). <IMAGE>
