The rotary engine (1) comprises a housing (14) with bearings (32) for a rotor (15) shaft (12) and inlets (18,20) for hydrogen (2) and oxygen (4) respectively. At least one combustion chamber (16) is provided in the rotor, and an ignition system, and a sealing arrangement (16) completes the arrangement. The gases are generated by electrolysis and pass to the combustion chambers via separate inlets through the hollow shaft and ducts (22,24) in the rotor. The seals are contained in annular grooves (25) in the rotor and secured to the housing and are segment-shaped. They serve to interrupt the gas flow to the chamber and consist of graphite. The segments may extend over 90 degrees.
|
