Provision is made for forcing, prefab. structural components, such as pipes, galleries or tunnels, through a dam which is secured by an advance embankment at the point where the component emerges. The advance embankment (19) has a horizontally sited disc or plate (21) built into it, above the top edge (20) of the component (13) to be pressed through. This is wider than the component. The reinforcing disc (21) can be a thin plate which is bendable in the vertical direction, or a vertically flexurally rigid reinforced concrete slab. Banking material (28) is pref. reinforced above the disc, and/or laterally close to the component below the disc, pref. with reinforcement (31) in layers. Tbis provides simple and economical strengthening for the embankment where required.
