The invention relates to a protective sleeve or cup-like protective cap for the active end face of a proximity sensor and a method for producing such a protective sleeve. The previous technique of separately flanging or soldering ceramic plates into a corresponding sensor housing was relatively expensive and usually entailed a negative predamping effect. The invention takes the approach of directly fixing the corresponding disc or the plate of ceramic or glass material solidly in the plastic material of the protective sleeve.
