A snap action switch has a Q-shaped plate 1 with two sprung arms 3, 4 which end in outward facing parallel end pieces 7, 8 which are placed in a slot 18 in a contact element 17. These end pieces are pulled together by being inserted in the slot, whereby the plate is put under tension in a snap action effect. The end pieces 7, 8 are held in the slot 18 by reaction forces as a result of the tension of the plate and they provide a good electrical contact with the contact element. The end parts of the plate can be drawn together by a clip on which a contact is riveted. The contact element can alternatively be supported on a conductive arm, separate from the plate and affected by the latter. The switch plate 1 is provided with the necessary tension for the snap action effect in an easy way without the plate end parts having to be welded together. <IMAGE>
