The device comprises an oil bath (2) and a drum (6) which can be driven in rotation above the oil bath by a yarn (11) to be lubricated when it is applied onto its surface by tensioning devices (9, 10). The drum comprises two cylindrical radial rods (7, 8) which, dipping into the oil bath (2) and leaving it, carry along oil, which, flowing over its surface, spreads over the surface of the drum (6) and lubricates the yarn (11). By varying the diameter and/or the length of the rods (7, 8), or their number, the quantity of oil which they carry along and spread over the surface of the drum is varied, as is, in consequence, the degree of lubrication of the yarn. <IMAGE>
