Compsn. for removing coloured marks comprises (wt.%) chlorinated hydrocarbon 50-70; aromatic hydrocarbon 3-10; ketone 2-9; lower alcohol 2-10; higher alcohol 5-11; swelling agent 0.5-3; wetting agent 0.5-1.5 and alkaline material 1-3. Specified components are: dichloromethane; toluene; cyclohexanone; methanol; benzyl alcohol and, as swelling agent, carboxymethylcellulose. The compsn. is esp. useful for removing marks from roads where they have been applied to indicate diversions etc. It has no deleterious effect on the road surface or adjacent vegetation (unlike the known methods which involve covering over with black paint or sand blasting).
