The optoelectronic detector detects the presence of a fluid and is robust and insensitive to the effects of moisture. A wholly or partially transparent body (1) has a cut-out (2) on one side. The light from a light emitting diode source (3) embedded in the body passes through the cut-out wall (2') at an oblique angle and to a photodiode receiver (6) embedded on the opposite side of the cut-out only when the medium to be detected is present in the cut-out. The signal induced in the receiver is indicated by an evaluation circuit (9,10) also embedded in the body which also contains a current supply providing the light emitting diode with periodic impulses.
