The connecting device comprises a support part (9) which is mounted on the optical appliance (20) and into which it is possible alternately to insert the exchangeable carriers (5 and 12, respectively) for a lamp (1) to be installed in the optical appliance or for an illuminating arrangement (supply cable 13 therefor) which is to be provided for a variable location outside the appliance. It is thus possible to achieve a quick and trouble-free changeover between internal and external illumination, e.g. transillumination or incident illumination of microscopes. <IMAGE>
