PURPOSE:To reduce the size of tower diameter and pressure loss when harmful gas in a waste gas from factories is absorbed by a packed tower by a method wherein the fractional void and the height of the packed material are specified and the mass velocity of the gas is made higher than the flooding velocity obtained from the Sherwood's correlation figure. CONSTITUTION:When SO2, etc. in a waste gas is absorbed by a packed tower, a fractional void epsilon of the packed material is regulated to 25-99.8%, and one or more of the packed section is accommodata to have a packed height Z less than 1/2 of the conventional one. Also, the mass velocity G of the gas is set to the value higher than the flooding speed obtained from the Sherwood's correlation figure. In contrast with the conventional method in which gas-liquid mass transfer occurs only in the part of packing material A, this process allows the mass transfer to occur in the part A as well as in the upper part B of the packing material. The mass velocity G of the gas can be made about 3 to 4 times as high as the conventional method and liquid distribution is made easier. As a result, L/G can be decreased (L: liquid mass velocity).
|
