PURPOSE:To prepare an acrylic acid hydrazide polymer compound having chelate- forming properties with heavy metal ions and formalin-absorbing properties, by reacting an acrylamide polymer or an acrylic acid ester polymer with hydrazine hydrate in an aqueous solvent. CONSTITUTION:An acrylamide or acrylic acid ester polymer expressed by the formula (Y is amide or ester group; n is 50-50,000) is reacted with hydrazine hydrate in an aqueous solvent at 40-100 deg.C, preferably at 60-80 deg.C in the presence of a water-soluble inorganic salt of an alkaline earth metal (e.g. calcium chloride). After the completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture is poured into a large amount of methanol, and the white precipitate obtained is purified by repeating the dissolution and precipitation to give the desired polymer. USE:Paper strength-increasing agents for paper manufacture, formalin-absorbing agents, heavy metal scavengers, etc. |
