PURPOSE:A complex halide fluorescent substance, suitable for a storage type radiologic image converter or thermofluorescent intensitometer, having a high stimulation emission brightness, and prepared by adding a specific rare earth element to a matrix comprising barium fluoride, a barium halide, etc. CONSTITUTION:(A) BaF2, (B) MgF2 and (C) a barium halide are incorporated with (D) one or more types of specific alkali metal fluorides and bi(tri)valent metal fluorides to form a solid solution matrix. The matrix is then activated with (E) one or more types of Eu, Ce and Tb to give a complex halide fluorescent substance of the composition formula [X is Cl, Br, etc.; MeI is Li or Na; MeII is Be, Ca, etc.; MeIII is Al, Ga, etc.; Ln is Eu, Ce or Tb; 0.90<=a<=1.05; 0<b<=1.2; 0<=c<=0.9; 0<=d<=1.2;0<=e<=0.03; and 10<-6=f<=0.03; c, d and e are not 0 at the same time].
