A method and a liquid detector for detection of liquid inside a channel 12 or container 34. The detector has a sending electrode 13 and a receiving electrode 15, as well as a tapping electrode 14 arranged between these. These electrodes are arranged inside or in direct proximity to the wall of the channel or container. When an electrical signal is supplied to the sending electrode, the transfer of the signal can only occur primarily between the sending and the tapping electrode if there is only a liquid film 26 along the inner wall of the channel or container, while there will also be a signal transfer from the sending to the receiving electrode when the region of the channel or container in which the electrodes are placed is filled with liquid. Thus, there is a large difference in magnitude of the electrical signal put out by the receiving electrode when there is only a liquid film on the wall of the channel or container, and when the channel or container is filled with liquid the presence of liquid can easily be detected by means of a suitable electronic circuit 22, 23. The principle can also be used to determine the level of the liquid surface in a container. <IMAGE>
