<p>The method and installation is for lighting switches on a switchpanel, for example the dashboard in a motor vehicle, through from the reverse side by using a transversal illumination source. The level of illumination through the transparent press switch indicates its operating state, weak for off, bright for on. Light from one source is transmitted along parallel transparent rails (47,48) behind each switch unit (15) so that when the switch is depressed the rear end of it (38,39) is closer to the illumination source. The light is then transmitted from the illuminated rails (47,48) through the transparent body to the front face of the switch (42), at the greater non-operated position a weaker light shows owing to the distance of the rear of the switch from the illumination bars. The switch shaft is lined with light absorbing material (29,31). The parallel light guides (47,48) lead back to a common dispersal point at the lamp and throughout their length are angled and shouldered to achieve maximum light transfer to the switch units.</p> |
