<p>Propellant powders of the single, double base, modified double base or composite type are dried, to remove residual processing solvent, prior to casting by contacting them with an organic solvent which is miscible with the residual solvent but which is not a solvent for the powder. Pref. the process is carried out at 60-160 degrees F for 2-30 days. The powder is esp. kept immersed in the org. solvent until it is to be cast into a propellant. The process avoids dangerous heat-drying of the powder and the need for subsequent handling of dry powders.</p> |
