The coupling for a vehicle and trailer includes an inertial braking mechanism. The mechanism is activated when the piston (B) slides into the cylinder (A), the innermost end of the piston (b2) pushing against the end (c1) of a lever (C). The second end of the lever provides the necessary force for application to the trailer brakes. A second lever (F) is pivoted above the cylinder so that in one of its two positions the lower end (f2) of the lever drops into the cylinder to prevent movement of the piston. The lever is normally biased away from this position, by a spring (G), but application of a voltage to an electromagnet (E) brings the lever into the blocking position. The electromagnet is operated from the vehicle electric system, being supplied by the same circuit as the reversing lights.
|
